Life threat — do the NOW steps before anything else.

Step 1 of 3 · now

Cover exposed organs

Moist clean dressing (water or saline) over exposed guts, then a loose dry cover so they do not dry out or stick. If nothing is out, just a dry dressing on the hole.

Use: Clean water / saline or Plain gauze or Emergency bandage — you marked this in kit

When this applies · do not
  • Hole in the abdomen
  • Intestines or organs showing
  • Rigid, swollen, or extremely tender belly after blast

Red flags

  • This is a surgeon problem. You can only keep them alive until the ride.

Do not

  • Do not push guts back in.
  • Do not pack a deep abdominal cavity the way you pack a limb.
  • Do not give food or lots of water.
